Maravilha Pousada is located in Buzios, Rio Janeiro, Brazil and is a beautiful seaside town on a peninsula surrounded by 23 beaches.

We sit on an acre of beautiful landscaped property high on a hill with 180 degree ocean and island views. The property is a simple 10 minute walk to three beaches (Geriba, Ferradurinha and Amores) that have sand surf breaks as well as a rocky bay that offers wonderful snorkeling where you can observe tropical fish and sea turtles year-round.

Airport Information

Buzios is 170 km (100 miles) from Rio De Janeiro International Airport (GIG). Uber is the best mode of transportation to Maravilha Retreat. The app works very well from the Airport and the ride will take approximately two hours and you can expect to pay approximately $100 USD ($500R).

We are happy to arrange for a private driver but it will be more expensive ($200-$250 USD), please contact us at least a week before arrival if you are interested in a private driver.

Alternative Routes to Get to Maravilha Retreat Center

For those interested in seeing more of Brazil while you are here, you might consider flying into Sao Paulo and then driving North to the beautiful town of Paraty and from there straight to Rio and Buzios.

Check in time is 1pm, and check out time is 11am. This is in order for us to get beds changed and ready for your arrival, and for the other guests. If you would like to depart later than 11am, we have a secure place for you to store your bags in our office.

The hot season lasts for 3-4 months from late December until the end of March with an average daily high around 85 degrees F. You can expect some days to be humid. The cool season is from late May until late October where the average daily high is 80 degrees F. The temperature rarely drops below 70 degrees.

There is a wet season from late November until late March, there is a 30% chance of rain on any day. Typically it is a tropical rain that dissipates within a few hours. 

For clients coming from the US, keep in mind Buzios Summer is our Winter so during July you can expect the sun to set around 6 PM and during December, it will be light much longer.

During most of your stay you will be in a bathing suit, shorts and tee shirts. It can sometimes get colder at night (70 degrees) so long pants, sweats and a light jacket and pull-over may be needed. The rainy season you may also need a light wind-breaker. Flip flops and a good pair of hiking shoes also will be needed. If you are going into town for dinner or shopping, then your casual clothing will be fine.

We provide most of what you will need here at Maravilha including bug spray, soap, towels, bedding, drinking water, yoga mats,  etc.. You may consider bringing your own travel power adaptor, shampoo, flashlight, sun protection, snorkel gear (beach rentals available including masks, surf and paddle boards) and diary.  See the full packing list in your guest handbook when you book your stay with us.

Brazil in general is very safe although in larger metropolitan areas similar to issues in the US it’s important to know where you are going and to not expose yourself to crime by displaying items such as jewelry, phones, expensive purses. The tourist areas of Rio (Christ the Redeemer, Sugarloaf, Copacabana and Ipanema Beach) are very safe.

In Buzios crime is extremely rare as we are in a wealthy tourist area on a Peninsula. Although we haven’t had any issues with theft here at Maravilha we do recommend that you lock our valuables in your room or take them with you.

Yes, each room has access to WIFI and we have excellent cell coverage.

We are about 4 Km from the famous Rock Street area. There is a wonderful trail that leads there by foot if you’d like to see the city by foot or it is a ten minute uber ride. During the busy season we will try to facilitate drivers for our guests.

Our main goal is to make sure you have a memorable time here at Maravilha Pousada so we can be very creative. We offer these services: Yoga, Meditation, Massage, Cold Bath services, sound-bowl healing ceremonies, sauna, personal training, health, diet and wellness, cooking classes, surf classes and even capoeira and samba classes. If you let us know in advance we can coordinate these special services for you.
